In 2011, there were pre-workout products on the market, based on AAKG, forms of creatine and other compounds that retain water in the tissues facilitating the “blood pump” effect in the working muscles. These products were targeted to the needs of bodybuilding training – because this was the sport in which such supplements were most often used. Companies selling these pre-workout products offered the same product for all types of sports: bodybuilding, boxing, MMA… and others – combining strength sports (such as bodybuilding where “pump” effect in the trained muscle is very much desirable) with strength sports such as MMA, boxing, wrestling, team sports. It was an obvious mistake, because in endurance sports the “pumped” muscle effect is undesirable, as it deprives the locomotor system of speed and endurance. As the first company in Poland (and probably also in Europe) we were faced with the task of creating a pre-workout product suitable for endurance sports. HIGH KICK was built in the gyms and on the training mats used for martial arts training. We have established three primary goals our product had to fulfill: – delay the oxygen debt (increase strength – fitness) – increase motivation, creating a mild CNS stimulation – completely eliminate any retention of blood in the working muscles, ensuring the working muscles are always flexible, and fully functional, and that the locomotor system responds to signals from the CNS or the limbic system of the amygdala and the hippocampus as quickly as possible. We invited martial arts athletes to perform tests. These particular sports combine speed with endurance and require great training motivation. Our product, therefore – also, to increase aerobic capacity and motivation – had to prevent retention of blood in the working muscles. During the stand-up fighting MMA fighters’ hands had to work well, without an effect of tensing trapezius muscles or numb shoulders, while during ground fighting their forearms and biceps had to maintain their flexibility without numbness – so that immediately when the fight lifts, the hands were to work quickly and efficiently in order to execute a strike or a hold… Athletes from the Warsaw BJJ club Copacabana and, later on, a leading Polish MMA fighter Michał Materla helped us with the testing. HIGH KICK was created after numerous tests and adjustments to fulfill these goals in all endurance sports: delaying the oxygen debt, motivating for exercise, and preventing retention of blood in the working muscles. In this way, it was to ensure that a martial arts competitor had improved speed and dynamism, a runner would not suffer from cramping calves, a cyclist would avoid leg muscle cramps.
